Safe Keeping Our Heritage

The Safe Keeping Exhibition is being held at the Perth Town Hall, Lower Foyer Cnr Barrack and Hay Streets, Perth Open 10.00 am to 4.00 pm, Wednesday 18 April until Sunday 18 May.

Project initiated by The National Trust of Australia (WA) during the Heritage Festival and curated by Catherine Czerw.

In what is arguably the first exhibition of its kind, some 20 different examples of a Coolgardie Safe will be collected from across the community of WA in one display. The “Safe Keeping” exhibition is the National Trust’s contribution to the 2012 Heritage Festival and celebrates ingenuity and inventiveness of Western Australians.

Selected Western Australian visual artists and writers have been invited to respond to the festival theme. The exhibition will  feature original artworks, especially commissioned, displayed alongside Coolgardie Safes. Artists will be relaying the stories  that the safes hold.

The final display will therefore consist of a fascinating array of Coolgardie Safes. They each will contain an original artwork that explores an aspect of our natural, Aboriginal and/or historic heritage of value to past, present, and future generations.

This is my work that will be in the Safe Keeping Exhibition. It will be exhibited with a Coolgardie Safe that has been kindly lent to me by Bevan and Vynka Lay from Lake Grace, where it is part of their museum collection.
